What to Watch

The Distance Medley Relay will be one of the premier events of the meet as a number of the top teams in the country will be competing. The event will be split up into even sections which will create very competitive races and fast times.

“The Distance Medley Relay will have a strong field this weekend with most teams looking to move up the national ranks,” said associate head coach Matt Sparks. “In the past, a number of national qualifiers have come out of this meet.”

The Irish will have Yared Nuguse, Jacob Dumford, Elijah Silva and Edward Cheatham run in the distance medley relay. It will be the first time the Irish run the DMR this indoor season.

The mile will be another event that has a strong field of runners and the Irish will be well represented on the men’s and women’s side. Billy Dolan, Brian Griffith, Parker Jones, Brent Kennedy, Yared Nuguse, Connor Sheryak and Vincent Zona are all scheduled to run in the event for the men. Rachel DaDamio, Annasophia Keller, Stephanie Knight and Madison Ronzone will run for the women.

Matthew Birzer will be back competing at the high jump this weekend. Birzer has won the high jump in every meet he has competed at in 2018. Last time out, he finished in a tie for first at the Meyo Invitational. Birzer set a personal record with a 2.19m (7′ 7.25″). That mark currently ranks third in the ACC and tied for 17th nationally.
