NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The No. 26 University of Notre Dame women’s golf program will make its sixth-straight appearance (eighth overall) as a team in the NCAA Regional, May 9-11, as the Irish compete as the No. 9 seed in the East region at the par-72 Auburn University Club (6,259 yards). Notre Dame was one of 72 teams selected into the three-region field, securing its automatic bid after clinching the program’s fifth BIG EAST title on April 23 at Reunion Resort and Golf Club (Orlando, Fla.).

COURSE: Located in Auburn, Ala., Golf Digest’s No. 1 rated “Best Golf City in America” (2005), the par-72 Auburn Club measures a total of 6,259 yards. First opened in 1999, the private course was designed by Bill Bergin. It is surrounded by 200 acres of rolling wooded terrain and is home to Yarbrough Lake and the Saugahatchee Creek that’s runs throughout the property. The course has been given a 69.7 course rating and a 125- slope rating by the United States Golf Association. It is the home course of the Auburn University Tigers men’s and women’s golf teams. NCAA

TOURNAMENT STREAK: Notre Dame extends its streak to sixth straight NCAA regional tournament appearances with its recent invitation into the tournament. The 2013 appearance marks the eighth time the program has advanced as a team and ninth time that at least one Irish golfer had participated in the event. Notre Dame advanced to the NCAA Championships for the first time in school history in 2011 after finishing fifth in the central regional and serving as the host site at Warren Golf Course. This year will mark the first time the squad has competed in the East region after participating in the central region each year prior.

2012 NCAA CENTRAL REGIONAL: The Irish finished 15th among the 24 schools in the field. Notre Dame fired a three-day total (May 10-12) of 936 at Ohio State’s Scarlet Course in Columbus, Ohio. The 15th-place finish was the second best in the program’s eight NCAA Regional appearances. Armstrong and Becca Huffer (’12) led the Irish with a 12-over-par 228, tying for 26th out of the 126 participants in the field.

2013 BIG EAST CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP: Notre Dame claimed its fifth BIG EAST Conference title in program history on April 23 at the Reunion Resort and Golf Club’s par 72 Tom Watson Course (6,124 yards). The Irish carded a three-day total of a three-under-par 861 (294-285-282) through 54 holes. The win marks the program’s third conference title in the last six years (2008, 2011, 2013) under three-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year Susan Holt. The 54-hole total also stands as the best team score registered in the BIG EAST Championship in the history of the tournament. The Irish overtook Louisville’s 876 score (2009) for the lowest round in tournament play. The score additionally stands as the program’s second-best score since beginning in 1988 and was the only under-par tournament for the team this season. Weaver and Campbell each fired six-under par totals of 210 to share medalist honors. The six-under par mark was the lowest 54-hole total in the history of the BIG EAST women’s championship, beating the previous mark of three-under 213 set by Louisville’s Cindy LaCrosse in 2007. Weaver and Campbell become the fourth and fifth Irish freshmen and sixth and seventh Notre Dame golfers to capture the individual crown at the BIG EAST Championship in the 11 years it has been offered. COACHING STAFF: Three-time BIG EAST Coach of the Year (2008/2011/2013) Susan Holt is currently serving her seventh year as head coach of the Notre Dame women’s golf program. During her tenure with the Irish, Holt has coached the Irish to three BIG EAST Championships (`08/’11/’13) and three runner-up finishes. Under her guidance, five Notre Dame golfers have earned medalist honors at the conference tournament and the Irish have advanced to six-straight NCAA Regional appearances. In ’11 Holt directed the Irish to their highest finish in program history at the NCAA Central Regional tournament (fifth) and led Notre Dame into the NCAA Championship for the first time in school history. Prior to her career at Notre Dame, Holt led South Florida to five Conference USA titles, was named Conference USA Coach of the Decade (1995-2005) and Conference USA Coach of the year on three occasions. Holt is assisted by Kyle Lynne Veltri. Currently in her eighth season as an assistant coach for Notre Dame, Veltri has helped the Fighting Irish post the top-six scoring averages in program history and has assisted Notre Dame to 27 all-Big East selections.

NATIONAL RANKINGS & HONORS (as of May 1): Lindsey Weaver enters as the No. 16 golfer in the nation followed by Ashley Armstrong who is No. 72 according to Golfstat’s May 1st rankings. Armstrong (April 1) was named as Golfweek’s Women’s National Player of the Week after guiding the Irish to a first-place finish at the Briar’s Creek Invitational (March 25-26) and achieving medalist honors of her own, turning in a scorecard of one-over-par 217 (74-71-72). Notre Dame has reached as high as No. 14 in Golfstat’s national team rankings while Weaver achieved the No. 1 spot individually at the conclusion of the fall season.

GOLFSTAT’S TOP FRESHMAN CLASS RANKING: Lindsey Weaver and Talia Campbell ranked No. 5 on Golfstat’s Top-25 Freshman Class Impact Ranking with a 73.65 combined stoke average. The duo sits .67 stoke away from fourth-place Stanford.

PROGRESSIVE MOMENTUM: The Irish has had at least three golfers place in the top-26 positions in each of the last five tournaments since May 10 during Notre Dame’s host tournament, the Clover Cup (Mesa, Ariz.).

EVEN OR UNDER PAR: Collectively the Irish have compiled a total of 35 even or under par rounds this season. Lindsey Weaver leads all active roster members with 14 followed by Ashley Armstrong and Talia Campbell who each have eight. Kelli Oride, Weaver, Campbell and Armstrong have fired at least one tournament at even our under par during the `12-’13 slate with Weaver having done it three times.

FLY LIKE AN EAGLE: Lindsey Weaver has made eagle in three separate tournaments while Talia Campbell achieved two eagles during the Windy City Collegiate Classic (Oct. 1-2).

STUDENT-ATHLETES: The women’s golf team has earned the University’s Academic Excellence Award ten times and has been awarded the honor the last five years. The award is given to the Notre Dame team with the highest GPA of the semester. This past Outstanding Student-Athletes Celebrating Achievements & Recognition Showcase (O.S.C.A.R.S), May 1, the team once again claimed the highest GPA among all division I teams represented at Notre Dame with a 3.616 average. Kristina Nhim (2010-`11, `11-`12) Ashley Armstrong (`11-`12) and Kelli Oride (`11-`12) have additionally been selected as a BIG-EAST Scholar Athlete. Armstrong and Oride were additional named to last year’s National Golf Coaches Association All-Scholar Team.

NATIONAL TOURNAMENTS: All five active roster members have played in at least one United States Golf Association (USGA) sponsored tournament. Ashley Armstrong (T-142nd) and Lindsey Weaver (T-131st) each participated in the `12 U.S. Women’s Open at Blackwolf Run (Kohler, Wisc.). Kelli Oride (T-105th) played in the `12 U.S. Women’s Amateur Pub-Links tournament at Neshanic Valley Golf Club (Neshanic Station, N.J.). Talia Campbell (T-33rd) was a participant in the `11 U.S. Women’s Amateur at the Rhode Island Country Club and played along side of Armstrong (T-69th). Kristina Nhim (T-87th) most recently competed in the 2010 U.S. Women’s Amateur at the Charlotte Country Club (Charlotte, N.C.). Oride leads the current active roster members with three USGA tournament appearances followed by Armstrong and Nhim who have each have played in two.

FUTURE DOMER: Jordan Ferreira (University Place, Wash.) signed a National Letter of Intent on Nov. 14, 2012 to attend the University of Notre Dame for the 2013-14 season. Currently in her senior year at Bellarmine Preparatory School, Ferreira ranks No. 24 by the Junior Golf Scoreboard, No. 30 by Golfweek and No. 47 by American Junior Golf Association in the class of `13. Ferreira has assisted the Lady Lions to three Narrow League championships (2010-2012) and three Washington 4A state crowns (2010-12). In each of the last two state championships (2011 and `12), she was runner-up for medalist honors and finished third in `10 during her freshman season. In May `12, Ferreira, a two-time Washington State Golf Association Girls Player of the Year, posted her best finish in a 36-hole tournament with an even-par-144 (73-71). Ferreira participated in the 111th U.S. Women’s Amateur Championship in `11 at The Country Club (par-71) in Cleveland, Ohio. She finished 119th with a 14-over-par 156 and fired even on the Par 5’s. Ferreira qualified for the event after firing a 72-even-par at the Oakbrook Golf & Country Club in Lakewood, Wash. In addition she was named to the HP Scholastic All-American Team in `12 and holds a 3.95 GPA through three years at Bellarmine.
