Irish Set For ACC Championship Return

NOTRE DAME, Ind. The Fighting Irish women’s golf team will head to the 2021 ACC Championship, which will be played on April 15-18 at the Sedgefield Country Club (Par 72/6,089 yards) in Greensboro, North Carolina.

This season’s championship will feature three rounds of stroke play and an individual champion (April 15-16), followed by the semifinals of team match play (April 17) and the match play team championship (April 18). 

“We’re excited to be able to compete in the ACC Championship this spring,” head coach Susan Holt said. “This is a culmination of a lot of hard work by so many to get to this point in the season. Sedgefield CC is a great championship venue and we are looking forward to the challenge ahead.” 

It will mark the first ACC Championship since 2019 after the 2020 season was halted due to the COVID-19 pandemic. 

Notre Dame’s lineup for the event will feature Lauren Beaudreau (1), Madelyn Jones (2), Abby Heck (3), Julia Bordeaux (4) and Claire Albrecht (5). It will mark ACC Championship debuts for Beaudreau, Jones and Bordeaux. 

Based on seeding, #11 Notre Dame will be playing with #10 NC State and #12 Boston College in Thursday’s opening round. Those tee times will begin at 8 a.m. ET. Five ACC teams are ranked in the most recent Golfstat rankings (April 7), including three in the top five. No. 2 Duke leads the way and is followed by No. 3 Wake Forest, No. 5 Florida State, No. 12 Virginia and No. 15 Virginia Tech.

Each August, Sedgefield Country Club plays host to the PGA Tour’s Wyndham Championship

Irish At The ACC Championship

  • Senior Abby Heck leads the way for the Irish with ACC Tournament experience, having played the event in 2018 (Sedgefield) and 2019 (Sedgefield).
  • In 2018, Heck tied for 50th (78-78-77=233) and then in 2019 she tied for 26th (76-71-78=225).
  • Claire Albrecht also played in the 2018 ACC Championship, placing 60th (84-88-80=252).
  • In 2019, the Irish finished 11th (303-307-303=913). 
  • Notre Dame’s best finish at the ACC Championship came in 2014 at Sedgefield when the Irish tied for fifth (306-303-296=905).
  • The 2021 tournament will be Notre Dame’s seventh appearance in the ACC Championship.

Beaudreau Wins The IU Spring Invite

  • With a 10-under par 206, Fighting Irish women’s golfer Lauren Beaudreau won the Indiana Spring Invite at the Covered Bridge Golf Club in Sellersburg, Indiana (April 4-5).
  • Beaudreau’s 206 (-10) tied her previous record-setting score she shot at the 2020 Westbrook Spring Invitational (Feb. 23-24), marking the best 54-hole score in program history (by stroke total and in relation to par).
  • Beaudreau fired an opening round 66 on Sunday morning and followed with a 69 on Sunday afternoon. Then on Monday the sophomore fired a 71 to seal the first win of her Notre Dame career, besting Valery Plata of Michigan State by three strokes. 
  • It was Notre Dame’s first individual win since Emma Albrecht captured medalist honors at the  2017 Bettie Lou Evans Invite (Oct. 6-8, 2017).

Inside The 2020-21 Season Stats

  • Sophomores Lauren Beaudreau and Madelyn Jones as well as junior Claire Albrecht have each played all 15 rounds this spring for the Fighting Irish.
  • Beaudreau’s 74.40 leads the active players in season stroke average, followed by senior Abby Heck’s 75.83 mark.
  • Beaudreau also leads the team with four even/under-par rounds this season. 
  • Notre Dame’s best team round was a 285 (-3) shot in the first round of the Indiana Spring Invite (April 4).
