NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The second of three trips to Florida on the season is in store for Notre Dame this weekend as the Irish sluggers carry a flawless 9-0 record into the Diamond 9 Citrus Classic. The first-year event, which features a number of the nation’s premier programs, will be played at the ESPN Wide World of Sports complex.

One-Hitters …
– Notre Dame is in its 23rd season of varsity competition with an all-time record of 900-411-3 (.686) … the program boasts 15 NCAA Championship appearances (12 consecutive) and six BIG EAST Conference tournament titles, the latest coming in 2009.
– The Irish are off to the best start in program history after opening 2011 with a 9-0 mark … previously, the 2001 team rattled off eight straight wins to start the season en route to earning a program-record 54 victories.
– Notre Dame won four games at the College of Charleston’s Cougar Classic (Feb. 26-27) and its win over Liberty was the 900th in program history … the Irish hit .316 as a team in the four-game invite while out-scoring the opposition, 19-5 … Alexa Maldonado hit .545 with six hits and six runs to pace the offensive unit while earning a spot on the BIG EAST Honor Roll.
– The Irish pitching staff posted a 0.54 ERA in 26.0 innings while going 4-0 at the Cougar Classic … Jody Valdivia, Laura Winter, Jackie Bowe and Brittany O’Donnell each recorded a win with Valdivia also posting a save.
– Notre Dame allowed just two hits against both College of Charleston and Iowa State while earning a pair of shutouts.
– Marist and Liberty scratched across one earned run each in a combined 12.0 innings.
– Notre Dame struck out 36 batters on the weekend, including two games with 10+ punchouts.
