Irish Remain In 17th Place Following Second Round Of UNLV Invitational

BOULDER CITY, Nev. – Noriko Nakazaki (Hanover Park, Ill./Hoffman Estates) carded a one-over par 73 during Tuesday’s second round of the UNLV Spring Invitational at the par 72, 6,199-yard Boulder Creek Golf Club. The senior co-captain will carry a two-round total of 148 (+4), which is 11 shots off the lead, into Wednesday’s third and final round. As a team, Notre Dame registered a 308 on the day to reside in 17th place with a 613 (+37) total. No. 14 BYU leads the 18-team field with a 563 (-13) score.

BYU’s Rachel Newren continues to lead the 96-golfer field with a seven-under par 137 (67-70) total. Jodi Ewart from New Mexico is second with a 138 (68-70), while Danielle von Arnim’s 139 (71-68) total makes it two BYU golfers in the top three. Her second-round score of 68 (-4) tied for the day’s low round with four other athletes. Nakazaki is tied for 30th overall for the Fighting Irish.

Indiana is seven shots in back of BYU in second place, while Idaho is currently third with a 573 total. The Vandals registered the day’s top round with a seven-under par 281.

Fighting Irish freshman Julie Kim (Bayside, N.Y./Bayside) carded a three-over par 75 on Tuesday and resides in a tie for 55th with an eight-over par 152. Notre Dame sophomore Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Collegiate Parkside Institute) and freshman Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) are tied in 82nd place with identical 157 totals. Maunu carded a second-round score of 80, while Brophy fired an 81. Freshman Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) posted an 80 on Tuesday and completes the Irish lineup with a 161 total and is in a tie for 87th overall.
