Irish Ranked 12th In Lacrosse Magazine's Preseason Poll

Jan. 26, 2005

The Notre Dame women’s lacrosse team has been ranked 12th in Lacrosse Magazine’s preseason poll that was released in the January/February issue of the magazine. Lacrosse Magazine is an official publication of US Lacrosse, the national governing body of men and women’s lacrosse.

The Irish are one of three BIG EAST teams ranked in the preseason poll, joining No. 9 Georgetown and No. 13 Syracuse. In 2004, Notre Dame finished the year with a 12-5 overall record and was second in the BIG EAST with a 4-2 conference record. The Irish advanced to the NCAA Tournament for the second time in the program’s history and finished the year ranked ninth in the nation.

The preseason poll ranks seven of the 15 teams on Notre Dame’s 2005 regular-season schedule and two preseason opponents among its top 20.

This season, the Irish will face Northwestern (3rd), Duke (4th), Johns Hopkins (6th), James Madison (8th), Georgetown (9th), Syracuse (13th) and Vanderbilt (14th). Notre Dame will also open the year with a pair of preseason games against ranked teams as they face Dartmouth (11th) and Boston University (20th) before the season opener against Ohio University in Athens, Ohio on Feb. 27.

Notre Dame opens the preseason on Friday, Feb. 11th when the Irish play host to Team Canada at the Loftus Center in a 7:00 p.m. game. They then travel to Dartmouth (Feb. 19) and Boston University (Feb. 20) before opening the regular season.
