NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame swimming and diving program plays host to the annual Shamrock Invitational at The Rolfs Aquatic Center this weekend. The Fighting Irish will also celebrate Senior Day at 3:30 p.m. Saturday prior to the afternoon session. Notre Dame will compete against Wisconsin (men and women), Grand Canyon (men and women), Nebraska (women), Missouri State (men) and Clemson (diving).
LAST TIME IN THE POOL
Notre Dame continued its strong swimming last weekend despite losing to No. 7/10 Louisville. The women came up just short, 160-140, while men were upended, 179-121. The Irish rebounded nicely, however, as the men defeated IUPUI, 168-117, and the women routed both IUPUI, 199-92, and Indiana State, 207-78.
COACH LITZINGER’S THOUGHTS
On what he looks to focus on in the Shamrock Invitational…
“We’re looking to sharpen up our primary events before we head into our championship meets (ACC and NCAA).”
On sending off his seniors…
“I know that our seniors are looking forward to their last meet at Rolfs. They’re a tremendous group and we’re looking forward to sending them off on a great note.”
On facing some strong competition at the Shamrock Invitational…
“There are some great teams attending this weekend. It’s quite an eclectic group, and I expect the competitive instinct of each group to take over. There will be some great racing for sure.”
Notre Dame earned scholar All-America accolades from the College Swimming and Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) on Wednesday. The Irish men and women each earned praise. The men were acknowledged for their 3.22 combined GPA, while the women were awarded for their 3.41 combined GPA.
