Irish Place Three On All-ACC Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Three members of the University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team received All-Atlantic Coast Conference Team accolades on Wednesday, as announced by the league office.

Graduate student defenseman Jack Kielty, sophomore attackman Pat Kavanagh and sophomore goalie Liam Entenmann earned the recognition for the Irish.

Notre Dame’s three honorees make it six straight seasons the Irish have placed at least three student-athletes on the team.

Wednesday’s honors are the first for all three Notre Dame players. The honors were voted on by the five league coaches.

Earlier in the day, Kielty earned ACC Defensive Player of the Year status. The graduate student has been a lock down defender all season for the conference’s top defensive unit and was the only defenseman all season to be named US Lacrosse Magazine National Player of the Week. Kielty has held nine of his 10 primary assignments in 2021 to below their season averages for points.

Kavanagh has been a revelation in the attack for Notre Dame, averaging 5.9 points per game to rank second in the league. The sophomore broke Notre Dame program records for assists in a season (36) and points in a game (10) during the 2021 campaign. The attackman has also become a mainstay on SportsCenter, regularly appearing in its Top 10 countdown for best plays in the country.

Entenmann has been one of the top shot stoppers in the country during his sophomore season. The goalie leads the ACC and ranks in the top six in the country in both save percentage (.580) and goals allowed per game (8.41). The sophomore made a career-high 18 saves while allowing just three goals in the win over Marquette.

With three selections to the 2021 All-ACC Team, Notre Dame now has 25 honorees over the seven years in which the league has handed out honors (none in 2020 due to COVID-19).

The Irish will look open up play in the NCAA Championships at 5 p.m. ET in Denver with a first round matchup against Drexel. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU.
