Irish Place Seventh At ACC Diving Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – The University of Notre Dame men’s diving team completed its first-ever trip to the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) Diving Championships Saturday, closing with the platform diving event at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Irish placed seventh overall in the men’s diving conference meet with 78 total points scored.

Junior Ted Wagner was the top Notre Dame finisher in the platform competition on Saturday, scoring 263.90 points to place 20th overall. Wagner added a 24th place (290.05 points) result in the 3-meter dive and a 22nd place performance (305.00 points) off the 1-meter board earlier in the weekend.

Freshman Joe Coumos checked in just behind Wagner with a platform score of 255.85 points, claiming the 21st position. Coumos led all Notre Dame divers with a score of 345.50 points in Thursday’s 3-meter event, chipping in 321.90 in the 1-meter dive.

Junior Michael Kreft was the third Notre Dame diver to place just beyond the top 20 off the platform, totaling 252.60 points for 22nd place. Kreft was the team’s top finisher off the 1-meter board (334.55 points) on Friday, and also scored 331.10 points in 3-meter action on the opening day of the championships.

Junior Nick Nemetz rounded out the Irish entrants in the meet with a final platform tally of 238.20 (24th place). Nemetz was the 17th-best diver with 325.20 points in the 1-meter collection of dives, following up on his 22nd place score of 296.60 in Thursday’s 3-meter draw.
