Irish Place Four on Preseason Conference Team

NOTRE DAME, Ind.
Notre Dame has been selected second in the 2017 Atlantic Coast Conference men’s lacrosse preseason poll, the conference office announced Tuesday. The Irish had four players selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team.

Baumer Family Head Men’s Lacrosse Coach Kevin Corrigan’s Fighting Irish received 21 points in balloting among the ACC’s five head coaches. North Carolina topped the poll with 23 points. Syracuse (16) was slotted third, with Duke (9) fourth and Virginia (6) fifth.

All five ACC teams are ranked in the top 15 in Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook Top 20 poll. Notre Dame enters the season ranked No. 4 with North Carolina starting at No. 2. Syracuse came in at No. 7 with Duke right behind at No. 8. Virginia earned the No. 14 ranking in the preseason poll.

Representing Notre Dame, senior midfielder Sergio Perkovic (Bloomfield Hills, Michigan/Brother Rice), senior defenseman Garrett Epple (Cockeysville, Maryland/Calvert Hall College), junior attackman Mikey Wynne (Sykesville, Maryland/St. Paul’s) and senior goalie Shane Doss (Glen Ridge, New Jersey/Glen Ridge) were selected to the Preseason All-ACC Team.

The Fighting Irish appeared in the NCAA Tournament for the 11th straight year in 2016 and they advanced to their seventh consecutive NCAA Championship quarterfinals. Notre Dame finished with an 11-4 overall record, including a mark of 3-1 in conference play.

The 2017 men’s lacrosse season gets underway in Dallas on Saturday, February 18, as the Irish play Georgetown in the Patriot Cup at 2 p.m. at The Star, the Dallas Cowboys newly constructed headquarters and training facility. The game will air on ESPNU.

The ACC Men’s Lacrosse Championship will be played April 28-30 at Koskinen Stadium at Duke in Durham, North Carolina. The semifinals are set for Friday, April 28, and the championship for Sunday, April 30.
