Irish Perfect On Day One Of St. Mary's Classic

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. – The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team opened its 2007 Fall portion of its schedule Friday afternoon at the St. Mary’s Classic hosted by the University of Tennessee. All three Irish doubles teams advanced into the semifinals portion of the tournament.

In their first career match as a duo, senior Brook Buck (Yukon, OK) and sophomore Kali Krisik (Arkansas City, KS) knocked off No. 28 Daria Petrovic and Lenka Hojckova of North Carolina State, 8-5. Buck and Krisik will face Sanaz Marand and Sophie Grabinski of North Carolina on Saturday afternoon. Marand and Grabinski upset No. 19 Kelley Hyndman and Yvette Hyndman of Georgia, 9-7.

Sophomore Cosmina Ciobanu (Brea, CA) and freshman Kristen Rafael (Grand Prairie, TX) upended Laura Reichert and Jelena Durisic of North Carolina, 8-4. Ciobanu and Rafael will next play Berkeley Brock and Catherine Grotz of North Carolina State.

Senior Bailey Louderback (South Bend, IN) and sophomore Colleen Rielley (Overland Park, KS) received a first round bye. They will face Stephanie Parkison and Elvira Yusopova of Middle Tennessee State on Saturday.

Singles action was slated to begin on Friday afternoon as well, but inclement weather delayed that portion of the tournament until Saturday morning.
