Irish Pentathletes Shine On Day Two Of ACCs

CLEMSON, S.C. – The men’s and women’s track team continued the championship portion of the indoor season schedule with the ACC Indoor Championships on Friday at the Clemson Indoor Track and Field Complex.

Freshmen women Jadin O’Brien, Alaina Brady, and Madison Schmidt kicked off the day competing in the women’s pentathlon with O’Brien and Brady earning All-ACC team spots for the first time in their young careers. 

O’Brien put together the second best pentathlon performance in Irish program history, finishing with a score of 4086, also a personal best. Competing in her third career event, O’Brien took first in the shot put (12.21m) and 800m (2:15.24) events, and placed second in the 60m hurdles (8.56), good for a second place overall finish on the day.

Brady finished in sixth place overall with a personal best score of 3790, earning her second team All-ACC honors. Brady recorded a second place finish in the shot put only behind teammate Jadin O’Brien, with a mark of 11.84m. Her pentathlon score is sixth all-time in Irish history. 

Schmidt also notched a personal best performance, scoring 3621 points over the course of the event. Her best finish came in the final event of the day, the 800m run, with a time of 2:19.09 and a fourth place finish. 

In the women’s mile prelims, Annasophia Keller (4:46.36) finished third in her heat and fourth overall in the mile run prelim, qualifying for the final which will be run on Saturday at 12:10 p.m. Junior Jocelyn Long recorded a personal best finish with a time of 4:50.19. 

On the men’s side, senior Matt Frazier set a personal best mark with a time of 4:07.84. Fellow senior Jacob Stupak crossed the line in 4:12.72, a season-best for him. Brian Griffith finished sixth in the second heat with a time of 4:10.42. 

The Irish wrap up the ACC Championships on Saturday, Feb. 27 for the third and final day of the meet. Competition for the Irish starts with the men’s shot put at 11:00 a.m. The final day of competition will stream live on ACCNX.
