Senior captain Katie Naughton garnered ACC Defensive Player of the Week honors on Tuesday.

Irish Pair Snare Weekly Honors

Sept. 15, 2015

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – After a weekend in which the University of Notre Dame women’s soccer team dominated a pair of Big Ten opponents, a pair of Irish standouts have been recognized for their contributions with weekly honors.

Senior defender Katie Naughton was named the Atlantic Coast Conference Defensive Player of the Week on Tuesday, while freshman forward Natalie Jacobs earned Player of the Week honors on the TopDrawerSoccer.com Women’s Team of the Week.

Naughton once again provided a formidable presence on the Irish back line, allowing just six combined shots to Big Ten opponents Indiana and Michigan in identical 2-0 wins over the weekend. Naughton played a key role in clearing opponents’ threats out from in front of the net and has been a stalwart on a unit that has allowed an average of just 1.9 shots per game through eight contests.

Jacobs, meanwhile, provided the gamewinning goals against both the Hoosiers and Wolverines. Her impressive volley near the top of the box against the Hoosiers found the back of the net though Jacobs finished facing away from the goal, while she notched the difference against the Wolverines on a rebound of Taylor Klawunder’s header amid a flurry in front of the Michigan net. Jacobs is now tied for the team lead in points with 12.

The Irish (7-01) will enter ACC play this weekend undefeated as they travel to Clemson to take on the Tigers (6-0-1) at 7 p.m. ET Saturday at Riggs Field in Clemson, South Carolina.
