Irish Pair Earn All-ACC Academic Recognition

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Two University of Notre Dame men’s tennis student-athletes were recognized for their academic performance on Monday, as rising senior Brendon Kempin and rising junior Alex Lebedev were named to the All-Atlantic Coast Conference Academic Team.

Kempin earned his way into the starting lineup in doubles this season, posting a 20-13 mark, including 14-7 in dual matches. The Sandy, Utah, product played primarily with sophomore Grayson Broadus, going 13-7 as a pairing. Kempin also went 12-9 in singles, including 4-1 in duals. He is enrolled in the Mendoza College of Business and majoring in finance.

Lebedev played his first full season in 2017 after missing the majority of his freshman campaign with an injury. Playing mostly at No. 3 singles, he went 23-17 on the year, including 12-11 in dual matches. In doubles, he accrued a 21-13 mark, including 12-6 in dual matches. He went 17-11 overall with freshman partner Matt Gamble, and 11-6 in duals. Lebedev is double-majoring in the Program of Liberal Studies and Film, Television & Theatre, with a concentration in theatre.

Joanne Norell, athletics communications assistant director at the University of Notre Dame, has been part of the Fighting Irish athletics communications team since 2014 and coordinates communications efforts for the Notre Dame women’s soccer, men’s tennis, women’s tennis and fencing programs. Norell is a 2011 graduate of Purdue University and earned her master’s degree from Georgetown University in 2013.
