Notre Dame at Providence Box Score

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) – Chris Quinn scored 17 points, including five 3-pointers, to lead Notre Dame over Providence, 62-61, on Saturday.

Notre Dame (16-7, 8-5 Big East) held off a late run by Providence, which narrowed a seven point deficit to one in the final two minutes, then forced a Notre Dame turnover with four seconds remaining. But Ryan Gomes missed a possible game-winning shot at the buzzer.

It was the Notre Dame’s first road win in the last five games. Rick Cornett had 14 points and 14 rebounds for Notre Dame. Chris Thomas scored 10 points and had eight assists.

Providence (11-15, 1-11) was led by Gomes, who scored 16 on 5-of-18 shooting. Randall Hanke added 12.

Providence led 14-5 after nine minutes, but Notre Dame came back with strong outside shooting. Notre Dame hit 11 3-pointers in the game, including three by Quinn in the first half to build a 31-24 lead at the break.

Notre Dame opened the second half with a 9-2 run after successive three-pointers by Colin Falls, Chris Thomas and Quinn. Providence rallied to tie the game at 53 on a three-point play by Gomes with 7:07 left.

Notre Dame scored its final points on another 9-2 run that was capped by a Jordan Cornette 3-pointer that gave Notre Dame a 62-55 lead with 1:47 remaining.
