Irish Spring

Following an all-ACC fall schedule, the Notre Dame women’s soccer team will continue the 2020-21 season this spring with a number of non-conference opponents as the Irish try to make a run for the NCAA Championship this May.

Sunday’s exhibition against the Red Stars will be the lone tune-up prior to the season beginning on Thursday, March 11 when the Irish travel down to Cincinnati. Over the next month and a half, the Irish will play seven matches against six different teams. Six of the seven games will be on the road as the Irish look to boost their resume prior to the NCAA Championship Selection Show that will be held on Sunday, April 18. The 2020 NCAA Championship will have a reduced field of 48 teams rather than the usual 64.

Irish in the NWSL

The Irish have a rich history with the National Women’s Soccer League. Since the league’s inception in 2012, 14 different Irish players have played in the league on eight different teams. Currently the Irish have three players in the league with Cari Roccaro on the North Carolina Courage, Katie Naughton on the Houston Dash and Sabrina Flores on Sky Blue FC. Roccaro is a two-time champion with the Courage and Flores is the most recent draft pick as she was selected in the 2019 NWSL Draft.
