EVANSTON, Ill. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team posted a strong first day of fall competition Friday, going 7-3 in singles and 2-2 in doubles at the Wildcat Invitational at Northwestern University.

Due to inclement weather matches were played both indoors and outdoors. Singles matches in the Purple and Green draws were played outdoors at the Vandy Christie Tennis Center, while Red and White singles matches were played inside at the Combe Tennis Center. All doubles matches were played indoors.

No. 63-ranked senior Monica Robinson, 78th-ranked junior Allison Miller and 112th-ranked junior Brooke Broda each won Purple Draw singles matches, while freshman Zoe Spence (Green), sophomore Rachel Chong (Green), senior Mary Closs (White) and freshman Bess Waldram (White) also won singles matches for the Irish.

In doubles, 48th-ranked duo Robinson and Broda, as well as Closs and Waldram, each won doubles matches in the A Draw.

The Irish will be back in action at 10 a.m. ET Saturday as competition continues.
