Irish Open Dual Season At Auburn Friday

Oct. 25, 2012

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team gets the 2012-13 dual season underway at 5 p.m. (ET) this Friday as it heads to Auburn, Ala., for a matchup with the Auburn Tigers at James E. Martin Aquatic Center.

The meet will feature 16 events, with diving occurring during the breaks. Fans can follow the meet via live stats or through Auburn’s live video. Links to both can be found on UND.com.

Notre Dame is coming off an impressive showing at the season-opening Dennis Stark Relays two weeks ago. During the meet the Irish won 11 of 12 events, with their lone non-victory coming in the 400 free relay as its top team was disqualified.

Auburn (2-0) has already claimed impressive dual victories over SEC rivals Alabama (182-62) and LSU (218.5-78.5) this season. The Tigers have won 25 of 29 events, including 24 of 25 swimming events.

Last year the two teams battled at Rolfs Aquatic Center with the Tigers earning the 167-125 win.

The trip to Auburn will be a homecoming of sorts for head coach Brian Barnes as he was an assistant coach from 2005-08, helping lead the Auburn men’s and women’s squads to NCAA Championships in 2006 and 2007.

Fans can follow the team on UND.com, on Facebook (Facebook.com/NDwSwimmingDiving) or on Twitter (@NDwSwimming).
