Irish Open 2020 Slate at Louisville

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — Notre Dame opens its 2020 fall slate with a pair of road matches at ACC foe Louisville on Friday, September 25 and Saturday, September 26. First serve for Friday’s season-opening match is set for 2 p.m. ET inside L&N Federal Credit Union Arena. The match will be televised live on ACC Network in addition to being streamed live via ACC Network Extra. Saturday’s contest is slated for 4 p.m. ET and will be streamed live on ACC Network Extra.

• The Irish and Cardinals will be meeting for the 40th and 41st times this weekend.

• Notre Dame holds a 22-17 edge in the all-time series.

• The Irish will be looking to avenge a pair of losses to Louisville last season, including a five-set thriller inside Purcell Pavilion on October 16, 2019.


• Junior outside hitter Charley Niego and junior setter Zoe Nunez were both named to the 2020 Preseason All-ACC Volleyball Team, the conference announced on September 9.

• Niego started all 29 matches and paced the Irish with a career-high 410 kills in 115 sets in 2019 while earning First Team All-ACC and AVCA All-East Coast Region honorable mention accolades. Niego also recorded career-highs with 326 digs, 53 total blocks and a team-best 33 service aces as a sophomore.

• Nunez earned First Team All-ACC accolades after racking up a career-high 1,219 assists in 115 sets for a mark of 10.60 assists per set a season ago. The Rockford, Illinois, native and 2019 AVCA All-East Coast Region honoree hit the 50-assist mark in eight matches in 2019, including a trio of 54-assist efforts against Louisville, Boston College and Miami.

• The class includes a trio of High School All-Americans in Aubrey Hamilton, Lindsey Miller & Hattie Monson.

• Charity McDowell, a 2019 Indiana All-State honoree, rounds out Notre Dame’s incoming freshman class.

• Monson was also tabbed a First Team All-American by and Hamilton was named Wisconsin’s Gatorade Player of the Year while Miller was selected to compete in the 2019 Under Armour All-America Match.


• Zoe Nunez ranked second in the ACC in 2019 with 1,219 assists in 29 matches.

• Nunez’s mark of 10.60 assists per set was also the second-best in the conference a season ago.

• Entering her junior season, Nunez ranks eighth in program history with 2,332 career assists and her career mark of 10.60 assists per set currently stands sixth in Irish history.


• Charley Niego earned a double-double in 14 matches in 2019, which tied for the 10th most in a single season in program history.

• Niego has racked up 27 double-doubles in her first two seasons with the Irish, which is tied for the tenth most in program history.
