Irish Open 2020 Season with Victories Over Bowling Green

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The University of Notre Dame Women’s Tennis team opened the 2020 slate of competition with two decisive victories over Bowling Green at the Eck Tennis Pavilion. The Irish opened play in the morning by earning a 6-1 victory over the Falcons and returned in the afternoon to take a 4-0 win.

How It Happened

In the first competition of the day, the Irish quickly took a 1-0 lead over Bowling Green thanks to a 3-0 sweep in singles. The duos of Ally Bojczuk & Page Freeman, Bess Waldram & Julia Lilien, and Maeve Koscielski & Zoe Taylor each defeated the Falcons in convincing fashion. In singles play, Ally Bojczuk earned the first singles win of 2020, defeating Ayumi Sasaki, 6-1, 6-1. Freshman Page Freeman and Julia Lilien also earned 6-1, 6-1 decisions, while Cameron Corse earned a 6-0, 6-1 victory of her own.

In the afternoon slate, the Irish once again got off to a hot start, sweeping all three doubles matches. In singles play, Koscielski earned a quick, 6-1, 6-0 victory over Lauren Silveira to win the first singles point. Her victory was followed by Bojczuk’s, who won 6-2, 6-1. Freeman clinched the match victory with her 7-5, 6-2 win.

Next Up

The Irish head to Athens, Georgia, for a weekend full of competition. They will begin play on Saturday, January 25, by taking on Furman at 10 a.m. ET. On Sunday, the Irish will take on both Georgia and Michigan State.
