Irish No. 3 Seed In Albany Regional And Will Play No. 2 North Dakota

NOTRE DAME, Ind.  – The University of Notre Dame hockey team will be the No. 3 seed at the Albany NCAA Regional and will face No. 2 seed North Dakota on Thursday, March 24 at 6 p.m. ET in the first round of the 2022 NCAA championship. The game will be broadcast on ESPNU. 

The NCAA Championship field of 16 was announced on the NCAA Men’s Ice Hockey Selection Show on ESPNU Sunday evening. The Regional’s other first round game will feature No. 1 seed Minnesota State and No. 4 seed Harvard. The Regional Finals are slated for Saturday, March 26. 

The additional 2022 Regional sites include Allentown, Pennsylvania (March 25 & 27), Loveland, Colorado (March 24 & 26) and Worcester, Massachusetts (March 25 & 27). The four regional winners will advance to the 2022 Frozen Four on April 7 and 9 at TD Garden in Boston, Massachusetts.

It marks the sixth consecutive NCAA Tournament field the Irish have earned an invite to, a program-best streak. It is the second-longest active streak, trailing only Minnesota Duluth (7).

Notre Dame, which made back-to-back Frozen Four appearances in 2017 and 2018 and advanced to the 2018 national title game, has made the NCAA tournament for the 13th time in program history and for the 12th time under head coach Jeff Jackson. 

The Irish have also appeared in nine of the last 11 NCAA Tournament fields. In addition to 2017 and 2018, Jackson also guided the Irish to Frozen Four appearances in 2008 and 2011.
