Irish Men Win First Dual Meet Of Year

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The Notre Dame men’s swimming team won seven events, before exhibitioning all of its swimmers, and defeated Western Ontario, 116-76, today at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. The Irish men improve to 1-3 on the year.

Notre Dame had seven different swimmers win races today including: the 400 medley relay team of juniors Greg Juszli, Matt Hedden, senior Rob Fetter and junior Matt Grunewald (3:35.46), junior James Scott-Browne in the 1000 freestyle (9:59.03), sophomore Jonathan Pierce in the 200 freestyle (1:45.60), senior Ray Fitzpatrick in the 200 individual medley (1:57.12), senior John Lubker in the 200 butterfly (2:01.20), sophomore David Horak in the 100 freestyle (48.23) and freshman Jason Colettis in the 200 backstroke (1:57.31).

This was the 35th meeting between the two schools, which is the oldest collegiate swimming dual meet in existence between schools in the United States and Canada. Notre Dame has won 34 of the past 35 meetings between the two schools.

The Notre Dame men next compete Thursday-Saturday, December 2-4, as the Irish host the Notre Dame Invitational at the Rolfs Aquatic Center. Preliminaries will begin at 10 a.m., and finals at 6:30 p.m., all three days.
