ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The University of Notre Dame men’s tennis team concluded action at the Wolverine Invitational on Sunday with its best performance of the weekend. The Irish took six of eight singles matches against Vanderbilt. Notre Dame split its four doubles matches for the third consecutive day.
Helgeson improved to 7-1 this fall with a 6-2, 6-1 straight-set win over Nick Cromydas of Vanderbilt. He cruised past his opponents each of the past two days – dropping just eight games.
King, who dropped his match yesterday, defeated Vijay Paul, 7-6, 6-4. Keckley upped his record to 6-1 this season with a 6-1, 6-2 rout of Evan Dufauk.
Akhvlediani was victorious in a three-set match for the second consecutive day. He slipped past Scott Lieberman 6-4, 3-6, 6-2. Akhvlediani and Helgeson are tied for the team-high with seven wins.
Roth also survived a three-set match. He held off Nathan Sachs, 6-2, 2-6, 7-6 (5). Corrigan won the third straight match to open his collegiate career. He had little trouble with James Moye, 6-4, 6-3.
Helgeson and King outlasted Jordan Magarik and Ryan Preston of Vanderbilt, 9-7. With the victory, the Irish duo improved to 6-1. Senior Stephen Bass and Roth cruised past Dufaux and Lieberman, 8-2, to remain undefeated at 5-0.
