Irish Members Advance At NCAA East Regional Meet

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s track and field teams had seven competitors advance at the NCAA East Regional Thursday at the Robert C. Haugh Track and Field Complex in Bloomington, Ind. There were six men’s members and Rebecca Tracy on the women’s team.

Freshman Patrick Feeney finished in 47.67 for third place in his heat of the 400-meter dash to advance to the quarterfinals. Kevin Labus and Jack Howard advanced in the 800-meter run. Labus ran 1:51.00 to finish in sixth place, while Howard finished in 1:51.39 for second place in his heat.

Johnathan Shawel finished the 1,500-meter run in 3:48.95 for fourth place, while Jeremy Rae finished in 3:50.21 for a second-place finish and J.P. Malette stopped the clocks in 3:51.23. All three Irish middle distance runners advanced to the quarterfinals.

Senior Daniel Jackson completed his track career in the 10,000-meter run as he finished in 30:20.95 for a 31st-place finish. Denes Veres had a throw of 16.82m to finish in sixth place in his heat in the shot put.

On the women’s side, Michelle Brown ran 55.17 for a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter dash.

Alexa Aragon, Kelly Curran and Tracy competed in the 1,500-meter run. Aragon finished in 4:35.30 for 10th place in her heat, while Curran ran 4:35.27 to finish in ninth place and Tracy ran 4:24.50 and a sixth-place finish to advance to the quarterfinals.

Junior Rachel Velarde ran 34:47.52 in the 10,000-meter run to placed 34th. Megan Yanik finished the 400-meter hurdles in 1:00.45 to place seventh in her heat.

Chrissy Finkel cleared 3.70m in the pole vault and finished 12th in her section. Jasmine Williams had a mark of 6.07m in the long jump and was a ninth-place finish in her section.
