Irish Make Large Jump in CSCAA Rankings

NOTRE DAME, Indiana — The University of Notre Dame Swimming & Diving teams skyrocketed in the latest College Swimming & Diving Coaches Association of America (CSCAA) poll, released this week. Previously ranked No. 21 in the CSCAA poll, the Irish men jumped to No. 15, while the Notre Dame women rose 11 spots, from a preseason No. 23 ranking to No. 12 this month.

The rankings come on the heels of Notre Dame’s first meet of the season, a virtual competition against West Virginia. Over the course of that meet, sophomore swimmer Coleen Gillilan set a program record in the 100 Fly with a 52.07. Reigning ACC Men’s Swimming Freshman of the Year Jack Hoagland posted two pool records on the weekend, marking an 8:51.86 in the 1000 Free and a 4:16.87 in the 500 Free.

Divers Austin Flaute and Kelly Straub each swept the 1-meter and 3-meter events in the virtual meet.

Overall, Notre Dame posted wins in 32 of 34 events over the course of the meet, including a sweep of all the relay events.

The Irish will have one meet before the end of the calendar year, traveling to Indianapolis Dec. 4-5 to take on IUPUI and Cincinnati. Returning in 2021, Notre Dame will compete against Cleveland State and West Virginia, as well as hosting the annual Shamrock Invitational prior to the postseason.
