Irish Log Strong Performances At Drake Relays And Clark Woods Invitational

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The Irish had competitors at both the famed Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa, and the Clark Woods Memorial in Louisville on Friday that turned in impressive performances for the Notre Dame track and field program.

A day after sweeping the women’s 5,000m at the Drake Relays the Irish women’s distance team was at it again on Friday, this time in the 1,500m race. Katie Wasserman won the event with a personal record time of 4:14.43 while teammate Olivia Markezich crossed second in 4:15.76. AnnaSophia Keller also had a notable performance, finishing fifth with a mark of 4:17.04.

All three of the runners recorded times in the top 10 best times for the event in program history. Wasserman’s time ranks fourth, Markezich sixth and Keller ninth. 

Michael Shoaf set the men’s all-time program record in the shot put at the Clark Wood Invitational on Friday, shattering his previous PR with a distance of 18.74m, which earned him a second place finish in the event.

Jadin O’Brien also made a dent in the record books, recording the second best mark in the long jump in Notre Dame history with a distance of 6.19m to take fifth.

The Irish swept the men’s and women’s javelin events. Austin Parsons got the meet underway for the Irish with a victory on the men’s side with a distance of 64.94m. Gabe Diederich followed with a first place finish for the women with a throw of 45.60m.

Notre Dame also placed two on the podium in the hammer throw, with Logan Kusky recording the second best mark on the men’s side with a distance of 61.88m, while Rachel Tanczos took home bronze for the women with a throw of 59.05m

Pole Vaulter Colton Crum turned in a second place finish, clearing a height of 5.16m.

Notre Dame completes the weekend with day two of the Clark Wood Invitational in Louisville on Saturday. The first event is the men’s shot put which is slated to start at 11 a.m. ET.
