The BIG EAST Championship round has been interrupted by a rain delay, with Notre Dame holding a 10-4 lead in the bottom of the 6th. The Panthers have a runner on third with two outs.

Cody Rizzo and Matt Edwards have hit two-run home runs to pace an 11-hit Notre Dame attack, with Edwards adding an RBI double while Steve Andres has chipped in a two-run double and Brett Lilley a two-run single.

Sophomore righthander Dan Kapala allowed four runs (three earned) in the 3rd but his teammates came right back to score four in the top of the 4th for the current 10-4 cushion. Kapala has yielded five hits and three walks in the 6.2 innings, with five strikeouts.

Pittsburgh shifted its starting pitcher, going with fifth-year righthander Don Rhoten, but the Irish chased him after just two innings (6 R, 5 H, K). Fellow senior righthander Eli Friedman currently is in the game for Pitt and was touched for the four runs in the 4th.

The game was halted at 5:41 EDT and the tarp remained on the field, as of 6:30. The Notre Dame sports hotline will include updates on the game status and fans also can track the game via live audio and GameTracker (linked via the main page at und.com).
