Irish Join SBPD At King Center

Oct. 7, 2016

The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team paid a visit to the Martin Luther King, Jr., Center on the west side of South Bend, Ind., on Thursday, Oct. 7, 2016. Working with the South Bend Police Department, the Irish held a scrimmage, which included the participation of SBPD Officers, for the members of the King Center.

The afternoon included a quick scrimmage and clinic, free throw contest and autograph session with the 2016-17 Notre Dame Basketball Team.

“This is just a first step for us,” Irish head coach Mike Brey said after the event.

“We want to bring the community and the South Bend Police Department together throughout the season at Purcell Pavilion, hopefully even get them in our locker room after a game. Basketball can be a unifying force for good in our community and we want our program to be one of the leaders in that movement.”
