Irish In Second Place At Cougar Classic Heading Into Final Round

HANAHAN, S.C. – The Notre Dame women’s golf team produced another stellar effort during the second round of the Cougar Classic on Monday. The Irish shot a four-over par 292 and reside in second place heading into Tuesday’s third and final round at the par 72, 6,159-yard Yeamans Hall Golf Club. Notre Dame freshman So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) leads the field with a two-round total of 139 (-5).

Park paced the Irish on Monday with a three-under par 69, which included a team-high four birdies. Her junior teammate Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) is currently in a two-way tie for second place, along with Tennessee’s Marci Turner, with a four-under par 140 (66-74). Maunu’s first-round total of 66 (-6) established a program record.

Notre Dame will carry a three-over par 579 (287-292) into Tuesday. The Fighting Irish are just three shots off the lead established by Tennessee. Texas is third with a 581, while Alabama is fourth with a 584.

Irish sophomore Annie Brophy (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) carded a two-over par 74 on Monday. That mark was a one-shot improvement on her first-round score and she resides in a tie for 38th with a 149 (+5). Her classmate Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) also knocked one shot off of her Sunday total by firing a 75 during the second round. She resides in a tie for 47th with a 151.

Completing the Notre Dame lineup is freshman Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River), who shot a 75 on the day. That was a three-stroke improvement from her first round score. She is tied for 58th heading into the final 18 holes of play.
