AUGUSTA, Ga. – The University of Notre Dame women’s golf team wrapped up the first day of the 54-hole Insperity Lady Jaguar Intercollegiate Tournament at Forest Hills Golf Club’s par-72 course (6,214 yards) with a first round total of a 15-over-par 303 to finish fourth out of the 18 teams in the field.

No. 9 Vanderbilt currently leads the field with a two-over-par 290 while No. 16 Purdue landed in second with a seven-over-par 295. The Irish trail third place No. 22 Texas (299) by a margin of just four strokes.

Lindsey Weaver moved up the leaderboard for Notre Dame after shooting a one-over-par 73. The freshman is in a seven-way tie for fifth and remains just two strokes off the pace of Purdue’s Laura Gonzalez, who sits in fourth. Vanderbilt’s Lauren Stratton (1st-69) and Jenny Hahn (2nd-70) have the top two spots after the first round of play.

Ashley Armstrong finished day one in a tie for 21st place with a four-over-par 76. The sophomore picked up 12 pars on the day and a birdie on hole 17 (par-5) measuring 533 yards.

Talia Campbell and Kristina Nhim concluded their rounds with a five-over-par 77 to tie for 26th place. Nhim leads the Irish with 13 total pars after shooting a five-over-par 77. Campbell and Weaver each led Notre Dame with three birdies.

Kelli Oride tied for 71st place after shooting a 10-over-par 82. Oride finished the first round with a total of nine pars.

“We got off to a rough start again today, but overall throughout the first day we had a lot of great shots and we battled well through a tough course,” said head coach Susan Holt. “Forest Hills has a lot of large and tough greens and it makes it difficult to take advantage of a great first or second shot as the greens demand a lot of putts to get near the pin. I look for us to capitalize and take advantage of the opportunities when they arise in the next two days.”

Action will continue Saturday morning as the first group is set to tee off at 9 a.m. Kelli Oride will open up the second day for the Irish as she is set to tee off at 9:40 a.m. followed by Nhim, Campbell, Armstrong and Weaver.
