Irish In 17th Place Following Second Round Of Central Regional

AUSTIN, Texas – Notre Dame will carry a two-round total of 620 into Saturday’s third and final round of the NCAA Women’s Golf Central Regional. The Fighting Irish are currently in 17th place after carding a 318 (+30) on Friday at the par 72, 6,301-yard The University of Texas Golf Club.

Third-ranked UCLA entered the second round with a two-shot lead and the Bruins increased their advantage by shooting a five-over par 293, which was tied for the top mark of the day. UCLA has a 576 (E) score after 36 holes of play. No. 6 Purdue is six shots in back of the Bruins with a 582 (288-294). TCU rounds out the top-three of the 21-team field with a 585 (285-300/+9).

Following the three-round event, the top eight teams and top-two individuals on non-qualifying teams will advance to the NCAA Finals. Notre Dame is currently 20 shots away from the cut heading into the last round.

Denver resides in fourth place with a 590, while Texas joins the Pioneers in the top-five with a 596. The remaining three teams above the cut are Alabama (597), Texas A&M (597) and Nebraska (600). Alabama matched UCLA’s top round of the day with a 293.

Among individuals, TCU’s Valentine Derrey is currently in first place with a seven-under par 137. Derrey was one of four golfers to shoot a two-under par 70, which was the top individual round on Friday. Maria Jose Uribe from UCLA is one shot off the pace with a 138 and Purdue’s Maria Hernandez is right behind with a 139.

Notre Dame junior Lisa Maunu (St. Thomas, Ontario/Parkside Collegiate Institute) leads the Fighting Irish contingent with a seven-over par 151 (73-78). Maunu is among a five-way tie for 37th. Freshman So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton Prep) will bring a 153 (74-79) into the final round. She resides in an eight-way logjam at 48th.

Fighting Irish sophomore Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, N.Y./Hilton Head Prep) has a 159 (76-83) total and is in a five-way tie for 78th. Notre Dame’s Annie Brophy (84-78) (Spokane, Wash./Gonzaga Prep) and Katie Conway (79-83) (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham Wading River) have identical 162 scores and are tied at 91st place. Brophy knocked six shots off of her first-round tally with a six-over par 78, which matched Maunu for the team’s top round on Friday.

The final round of the NCAA Central Regional will take place on Saturday with tee times beginning at 8:10 a.m. (CT). Notre Dame will tee off between 12:30 p.m. and 1:10 p.m. (CT).
