Irish Icers To Practice On The Pond, Monday, Jan. 16

Notre Dame, Ind. – The Notre Dame hockey team will get a chance to return to its hockey roots on Monday, Jan. 16th when the Irish move practice from the Compton Family Ice Arena to “Practice On The Pond” at Merrifield Park in Mishawaka, Ind. The event starts at 4:00 p.m. with Irish hitting the ice at 4:30 p.m. and practice will run until 6:00 p.m. This event is free and open to the public.

This popular outdoor practice gives fans a chance to meet the Notre Dame hockey team and to get autographs from their favorite players.

Sunny 101.5 FM will be on hand for a live remote from 4:00 to 6:00 p.m. and will have hockey prizes and memorabilia that fans in attendance will have a chance to win.

Free hot chocolate will be provided to all fans in attendance. Dress warm and come watch the Irish hockey team up close and personal.

This marks Notre Dame hockey’s fifth trip to practice outdoors at Merrifield Park with the first practice coming in January of the 2007-08 season. Last season, the Irish practiced on the outdoor rink on Feb. 4.

Notre Dame will use the outdoor practice as they prepare for a busy home weekend as the Irish face the Michigan Wolverines on Jan. 20-21 at the Compton Family Ice Arena in a pair of 7:35 p.m. games.

This weekend, Notre Dame faces Western Michigan in a home-and-home series. On Friday, Jan. 13, the teams will play at the Compton Family Ice Arena at 7:35 p.m. Notre Dame enters the series ranked third in the nation in both the USA Today/American Hockey Magazine and USCHO.com polls. Overall, the Irish are 13-6-3 on the season and are 8-3-3-0 in the CCHA, good for a second-place tie with the Broncos.
