Irish Host Syracuse In Pivotal Conference Tilt On Saturday

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — No. 1/1 Notre Dame hosts No. 3/4 Syracuse on Saturday at Arlotta Stadium. The game will mark Notre Dame’s fifth straight outing against a ranked opponent, with three of the last four coming against teams ranked in the top five. The game will be broadcast live on ESPNU at noon ET.

The Syracuse Series

  • Saturday will be the 13th meeting all time between Notre Dame and Syracuse. The Irish trail in the all-time series with the Orange, as Notre Dame has a 4-8 record in the matchup.

  • The last installment between the two sides came last season at Syracuse. The Irish won their first game ever in the Carrier Dome, dominating the game to the tune of a 17-7 final score. Ryder Garnsey led the team with five goals while Mikey Wynne added four in the victory.

  • The Irish have won each of the last three matchups against Syracuse. Three of the last four games have been decided by one goal.

  • Notre Dame holds a 2-1 edge over the Orange in the series when playing at home.

Irish Back On Top

  • Notre Dame earned the No. 1 ranking in all of the major national polls after defeating No. 4 Ohio State by a score of 12-7 on March 25. The Irish have now claimed the top spot in the polls on two occasions this season.

  • Monday’s polls mark the 19th time in program history the Irish have been ranked No. 1.

  • Notre Dame claimed the No. 1 ranking nine times last season.

Notre Dame Vs. Top Five Teams

  • Notre Dame is 11-9 against teams ranked in the top five in the USILA Coaches Poll over the previous five seasons.

  • The Irish are 2-1 this season against top five teams, as the program defeated No. 2/1 Maryland 5-4 and No. 4/4 Ohio State 12-7 and fell at No. 4/5 Denver 11-10.

  • Saturday’s game will be Notre Dame’s third matchup against a top five team in its last four outings.

Irish In The ACC

  • The Irish have a combined record of 10-4 in its four seasons of ACC regular season play and 12-6 when you include ACC Tournament games.

  • The Irish won the first conference tilt of 2017 with an 11-10 overtime victory over Virginia.

  • Notre Dame also has found success in the ACC Tournament, winning the 2014 championship.

  • The Irish went a perfect 4-0 in 2015 to win i first regular season conference title and followed up with a record of 3-1 in 2016 to claim a share of the regular season championship.

  • Notre Dame has not dropped a conference home opener since joining the ACC, posting a mark of 3-0.

  • The Irish are undefeated in home conference games over the last two seasons and hold a 5-2 record over the first three seasons of league play in Arlotta Stadium.

Last Time Out

  • The Irish never trailed in the 12-7 win over No. 4/4 Ohio State at Arlotta Stadium on March 25.

  • Ryder Garnsey and Sergio Perkovic tied for the team lead in points with four apiece. Garnsey scored two goals and added two assists, while Perkovic finished with a team-high three goals and one assist.

  • The victory was Notre Dame’s 15th straight over the Buckeyes and the Irish improve to 33-9 against Ohio State in the all-time series.

  • The Irish are now 3-0 against the Big Ten this season.
