GREENSBORO, N.C. – For the 13th consecutive season, two of the nation’s premier women’s basketball conferences will square off for hardwood bragging rights, as the matchups for the Atlantic Coast Conference/Big Ten Women’s Basketball Challenge were announced Tuesday. The University of Notre Dame will welcome the University of Minnesota to Purcell Pavilion on Wednesday, Dec. 4.
This past season, the Fighting Irish knocked off No. 14 Iowa, 105-71, moving to 6-0 in the ACC/B1G Challenge. Notre Dame will look to earn its first win ever against Minnesota, previously suffering NCAA Tournament first-round losses in both 1994 and 2009.
Last year, the ACC edged the Big Ten, 8-6, in the Challenge. The title was the ninth in league history, with the ACC owning a 9-0-3 advantage. Additionally, it was the third consecutive outright title for the ACC, as the league owns an 89-61 advantage against the Big Ten in Challenge games.
The Challenge will take place over two days, beginning Wednesday, Dec. 4, with five matchups highlighted by the Fighting Irish challenging the Golden Gophers. The following night (Thursday, Dec. 5) will feature the nine remaining matchups.
Game times, as well as network coverage for the 2019 Big Ten/ACC Women’s Basketball Challenge will be announced at a later date.
