BRISTOL, Conn. – ESPN announced the matchups for the 2022 Jimmy V Women’s Classic Presented by Corona, and once again, it’ll be the Notre Dame/UConn rivalry in the spotlight. The matchup is set for Dec. 4, inside Purcell Pavilion.
Not only that, but the two sides will clash in front of a national audience with the game being broadcasted on ABC. The ABC Network did a total of 12 women’s college basketball games last season and continues the expanded coverage into the 2022-23 campaign.
This year marks the sixth head-to-head matchup between Notre Dame and UConn in the Jimmy V Classic, and the third time the Irish have hosted. All-together, it’ll be the 53rd time the Irish and Huskies have clashed on the hardwood.
The Jimmy V Classic, named for legendary college basketball coach Jim Valvano, annually raises money and awareness for the V Foundation for Cancer Research. The women’s event debuted in 2002. Both the men’s and women’s events are part of ESPN’s V Week initiative, which utilizes platforms to talk to sports fans about the importance of cancer research. To date, ESPN has helped raise more than $155 million dollars for the V Foundation.
In 2021, V Week raised $13.35 million, surpassing the previous high of $8.8 million in 2019.
