Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre Dame hockey coach Jeff Jackson will appear on WSBT Radio’s nightly sports talk show – Sportsbeat – hosted by the voice of Irish hockey, Darin Pritchett, from 6:00 to 7:00 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 4 live from Bakers – located inside the DoubleTree Hotel in downtown South Bend.
Jackson, along with an Irish player, will be Pritchett’s guest three times before the end of the season – Feb. 4, Feb. 17 and March 4 or 10, depending on Notre Dame’s status for the 2014 Hockey East playoffs. The show is open to all fans of Irish hockey and will move to various restaurants in the South Bend area for another “Hockey Night in South Bend.”
Jackson and Pritchett will talk all sports during the beginning of the hour, followed by a segment on the Notre Dame hockey team and recent events. A third segment will include an interview with Notre Dame players and that will be followed by questions from fans in attendance. Attending the show this week are seniors Mike Voran, Shayne Taker and Stephen Johns.
If you can’t make it to Bakers on Tuesday night, fans can listen to the show on WSBT 960 AM or at 96.1 FM. The entire Sportsbeat show begins at 5:00 p.m. and runs until 7:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.
HOCKEY SAVES JERSEY AUCTION
Time is running out on the Notre Dame hockey jersey auction to benefit the military organization – Hockey Saves.
Notre Dame players wore specially designed jerseys for their last home series against Northeastern on Jan. 24-25, and those jersey are currently available for auction on the Notre Dame website at UND.com (http://und.cstvauctions.com/gallery.cfm?cat_id=5). The auction will run through Tuesday, Feb. 4 at 9:00 p.m., so get your bids in now. The proceeds from the auction will go to support the programs run by Hockey Saves.

The white home jersey that is available features the Notre Dame traditional leprechaun on the front with camouflage coloring instead of the usual green. The numbers on the sleeves and the back are also in camouflage to honor members of the military. The shoulders are blue with the Hockey Saves logo on the back and inside the collar in gold is the word – Courage.
Hockey Saves is a 501(c)(3) non-profit, founded initially as a simple way to say, “thank you” to the brave men and women who defend our country. Based in Fort Benning, Ga., the organization began as a way to provide soldiers at the base an outlet through hockey. Originally, it provided ice time for a few dozen servicemen but has grown to include over 200 players at Fort Benning. With all the players joining the organization, the groups’ needs have grown for equipment and ice time. That’s where the world of hockey has come in.
The National Hockey League has donated specially designed hockey jerseys to the organization and the players. Various college and minor professional teams and players have donated equipment and their time to help the group. Notre Dame goaltender Joe Rogers (Marysville, Mich.), one of 18 nominees for College Hockey’s Humanitarian Award, became involved with Hockey Saves last year and is now on the group’s board of directors. He is spearheading this year’s fundraising efforts.
Fans must be registered to bid on these special jerseys by setting up an auction profile (user name/password/billing information) in advance. The winning bidder will receive the jersey autographed by the player wearing it, and also one additional player (NCAA rules stipulate a minimum of two signatures per jersey). Player nameplates will be removed from the jerseys prior to fulfillment.
WHITE OUT NIGHT
Notre Dame will host the Maine Black Bears this weekend, Feb. 7-8, in a crucial Hockey East series. Friday night’s game starts at 7:35 p.m. and will be a WHITE OUT – WEAR WHITE night for Notre Dame fans attending the Compton Family Ice Arena.
Early arriving fans receive a white long sleeve t-shirt sponsored by Chili’s and white pom pons sponsored by ATI Physical Therapy. During the first intermission, one lucky fan could win a Cadillac SRX courtesy of Gurley Leep, during the Red Line Rapid Fire.
Saturday’s contest starts at 8:05 p.m. and is “Operation Hat Trick Night.” Fans can purchase a Notre Dame-themed Operation Hat Trick hat during either game of the series or bring their own new hat to the game. Following each game, when the Irish do their traditional postgame stick salute, you can throw your hat on the ice. All hats will be donated to Operation Hat Trick to benefit wounded members of the military.
General admission tickets are still available for both games of the series this weekend, for only $10. You can purchase online, at the Murnane Family Ticket Office or starting two hours prior to the game at the Compton Family Ice Arena Ticket office.
