Irish Heading To Texas A&M For NCAA Championships Regional Action

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team will head to College Station, Texas, for the first round of the NCAA Championships.

The 36th-ranked Fighting Irish (14-10) will face 17th-ranked TCU (18-8) in the first-round match on May 8 or 9, while host No. 9 Texas A&M (15-5), the No. 10 overall seed, will take on Alcorn State (11-12), the automatic qualifier from the SWAC. Second round matches will occur on May 9 or 10, with times to be determined.

The top 16 overall seeds will serve as host for first and second round regional action, with 32 teams automatically qualifying and the other 32 receiving at-large bids. The winners of each four-team pod will advance to the NCAA Championships quarterfinals held May 15-19 at the Hurd Tennis Center in Waco, Texas.

Tournament matches will be regulation dual matches with three (3) eight-game, pro-set doubles played for one team point, followed by six (6) singles matches, each valued at one team point, played in best-of-three sets. Regular scoring will be used and a 12-point tiebreaker will be played at seven-games-all in doubles and at six-games-all in singles.

This will be the 20th straight NCAA appearance for the Irish.
