NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame women’s swimming and diving team is set to participate in the 2013 BIG EAST Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships that will be held from Wednesday, Feb. 27 – Saturday, March 2 at the impressive IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis, Ind.

The Irish (5-4), who are tied for 18th in the latest CSCAA Coaches Poll, are set to battle 10 teams this week, including two-time defending champion and No. 16 Louisville.

Earlier in the season the Irish defeated Pittsburgh, 188-112, and lost to Louisville, 162-138, in dual meets on consecutive days at Rolfs Aquatic Center.

Last year the Irish finished second with 593.5 points, as Louisville racked up 758.5 points to win its second league title in a row. Ten Notre Dame student-athletes earned 33 all-BIG EAST scrolls.

Fans can follow the BIG EAST meet through the league’s championship central page. NEWS AND NOTES

Notre Dame earned a pair of second place finishes in 2011 and 2012 after winning 14 consecutive BIG EAST titles from 1997 – 2010 … the Irish joined the BIG EAST in 1996 and finished third that first season before reeling off 14 consecutive titles.

Only three Irish performers have won three individual events in one meet (last Katie Carroll – 2004) … Kim Holden, Kelly Ryan and Emma Reaney are all in the top three in three or more individual events heading into the meet.

The Irish have quite a streak going in the 400 medley relay as they have won the event four years in a row (2009-12) … they also have won the 400 free relay two years in a row (2011-12).

Senior diver Jenny Chiang is looking to win her fourth 3-meter title in a row … she is a three-time BIG EAST Champion and a five-time all-BIG EAST honoree … she would become just the second Irish performer to win the same event all four years (Kelly Hecking – 100 Back – 1999-2002) … would be 12th BIG EAST women’s performer to win same event all four years … the feat has been accomplished 15 times overall in 11 events … Chiang would be the first BIG EAST diver to ever win four straight in the same discipline.

Senior tri-captain Kim Holden is an eight-time BIG EAST Champion and a 15-time all-BIG EAST honoree … she won both the 100 and 200 backstroke in 2010 and 2011 … could become seventh Irish performer to win same event three times … would be first in Notre Dame history to win two events three times each.

Junior tri-captain Kelly Ryan is an eight-time BIG EAST Champion and a 13-time all-BIG EAST honoree … Ryan is a two-time 100 free champion and is the reigning champion in the 200 back and 100 free.

Sophomore Emma Reaney is a four-time BIG EAST Champion and a seven-time all-BIG EAST honoree … she is the reigning 100 breast and 200 IM champion.

Sophomore Suzanne Bessire is a one-time BIG EAST Champion in the 400 free relay and a three-time all-BIG EAST honoree.

Senior tri-captain Lauren Scott is a two-time BIG EAST Champion in relay events and a five-time all-BIG EAST honoree in relay events.

Junior Sarah Dotzel is a one-time all-BIG EAST honoree in the 200 medley relay.

Sophomore Hannah Bowen is a one-time all-BIG EAST honoree in the 200 free relay.

Sophomore Allison Casareto is a one-time all-BIG EAST honoree in the 1-meter dive.
