Irish Have Successful Return To The Pool

NOTRE DAME, Ind. — The University of Notre Dame swimming and diving program is back on campus and hosted the first day of a dual meet against Iowa and Illinois. The Irish had a strong showing in the three events that were actually scored.

Standout Swims
Women’s 200-yard Freestyle Relay
The Irish placed both first and second in the event. Tapping first was the group of Katie Smith, Catherine Mulquin, Abbie Dolan and Sofia Revilak at 1:32.61. Shortly after them at 1:34.39 came the quartet of Kelly Jacob, Lauren Heller, Meaghan, O’Donnell and Nikki Smith.

Men’s 200-yard Freestyle Relay
Notre Dame secured a first-place sweep in the relays when the foursome of Daniel Speers, Dan Fujan, Reed Fujan and Tabahn Afrik were first to tap at 1:22.60.

Women’s 100-yard Individual Medley
The Irish women claimed three of the top five spots. O’Donnell finished first with a time of 57.38. Nikki Smith placed third with a time of 57.77 and Erin Sheehan finished fourth (57.83).

Men’s 100-yard Individual Medley
Notre Dame swept the top five spots: Robby Whitacre (50.63), Reed Fujan (50.84), Matt Grauslys (51.32), Kevin Bradley (51.42) and David Steward (51.69).

Men’s 400-yard Medley Relay
Notre Dame claimed three of the top five spots: Whitacre, Trent Jackson, Matt Grauslys and Afrik placed first with a time of 3:18.04. Joe Turk, Rex Riley, Stewart and Reed Fujan finished third at 3:24.70 and Nick Milikich, Ben Gorski, Bradley and Billy Barth placed fourth with a time of 3:25.84.

Women’s 400-yard Medley Relay
The Irish earned the top two spots. The quartet of Mulquin, O’Donnell, Revilak and Dolan clocked in first at 3:43.04. Teammates’ Alice Treuth, Sherri McIntee, Erin Sheehan and Lauren Heller finished second with a time of 3:45.57.
