Irish Have Strong Opening Day At Indiana Fall Invite

BLOOMINGTON, Ind. – The Notre Dame women’s tennis team opened up its 1999-2000 season with singles and doubles action Friday at the three-day University of Indiana Fall Invitational in Bloomington, Ind.

The Irish got straight set wins by singles players Kelly Zalinski, Lindsey Green, Sarah Scaringe, Katie Cunha and Michelle Hamilton. Green and Zalinski then paired up in doubles to capture both of their matches with an 8-5 win over Marquette’s Sara Fernandez and Ann Pavlovic and an 8-4 victory against Ball State’s Libby Gerding and Darcy Poulos. The team of Guy and Vaughn won their first round doubles match 8-4, but then fell to Western Michigan’s Larissa Chinwah and Nikki Thompson, 8-5. In the second doubles flight, Cunha and Scaringe picked up an 8-1 win over Southern Illinois’ Keri Crandall and Rachel Moroles.

The Indiana Fall Invitational continues Saturday (Sept. 25) and Sunday (Sept. 26) at the Indiana University Varsity Courts.
