Irish Have Qualitiy First Day From Midwest Regionals

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Notre Dame had a pair of doubles’ teams move into the round of 16 of the Wilson/ITA Midwest Regional Championships at the University of Michigan Varsity Tennis Center.

Senior Brook Buck (Yukon, OK) and junior Kelcy Tefft (Enid, OK) cruised into the round of 16. They disposed of Xavier’s Kara Courtney and Tifanie Treece, 8-0, before upending Lindsey Lonergan and Manon Noe of Michigan State, 8-4.

Buck and Tefft improved to 3-1 on the season and 62-15 for their career. Buck and Tefft will face Lindsey Howard and Rika Tatsuno of Michigan for a berth into the quarterfinals.

Sophomore Kali Krisik (Arkansas City, KS) and Colleen Rielley (Overland Park, KS) also reached the round of 16. Krisik and Rielley registered a pair of convincing victories. They opened the draw with an 8-4 triumph over Katri Miller and Veronique Parke-Bedard of Illinois State. Krisik and Rielley then knocked off Katya Mirnova and Chelsea Nusslock of Wisconsin, 8-3. They will play Jennifer Migan and Joanne Schickerling of Indiana State on Saturday.

Sophomore Cosmina Ciobanu (Brea, CA) and freshman Kristen Rafael () split their two matches. They defeated Tijana Koprivica and Alex Seaton of Minnesota, 8-5, but fell short of the round of 16 following their loss to Joanna Craven and Stephanie Wooten of Purdue, 8-3. Ciobanu now stand 4-1 on the season.
