The University of Notre Dame men’s basketball team held an informal awards presentation on Thursday, April 21, 2022, in Rolfs Athletics Hall to put an official cap on the 2021-22 season. The Irish finished 24-11 overall last season with a 15-5 record in the Atlantic Coast Conference and a 14-1 record at Purcell Pavilion.
The postseason was highlighted by a run to the second round of the NCAA Tournament, as the Irish battled Rutgers in double overtime in the First Four, then knocked off Alabama less than 48 hours later before losing a hard-fought contest to Texas Tech in San Diego.
It was truly a team effort for the Irish throughout the season, with six players averaging over 8.9 points-per-game and over 27 minutes of playing time each game. The team’s cohesion and brotherhood prompted Glenn and Stacey Murphy Head Men’s Basketball Coach Mike Brey to name the entire roster as the ‘Most Valuable Player.’
Among the individuals honored during the event, Dane Goodwin was named the Most Improved Player, Cormac Ryan the Best Defender, Paul Atkinson Jr. the Top Rebounder and Prentiss Hubb as the Assist Leader.
Nate Laszewski and Blake Wesley were not in attendance, as the duo continues to work out in Las Vegas in preparation for the 2022 NBA Draft. Laszewski was honored with the Team Leadership Award and Wesley was named the Rookie of the Year.
