Dec. 20, 2002

Notre Dame, Ind. – University of Notre Dame hockey coach Dave Poulin announced today that sophomore left wing Alex Lalonde (Newmarket, Ont.) has left the team to play major junior hockey in Canada.

Lalonde had appeared in 12 games for the Irish this season, scoring a goal and adding 12 minutes in penalties. His lone goal came in Notre Dame’s 3-3 tie with then third-ranked Boston College on Nov. 1.

As a freshman, Lalonde played in 19 games with four goals and two assists for six points. He also recorded 27 minutes in penalties for the season.

In making the announcement, Poulin said, “We wish Alex all the best and we support him in his decision. I know it was a difficult choice for him to make. In speaking with his family and Alex at length, this was the choice that they made. I appreciate the effort he has given to the program the last year-and-a-half.”
