By Joanne Norell

NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame men’s and women’s fencing teams wrapped up their weekend on Sunday as they welcomed eight club teams to compete on the second day of the third annual DeCicco Duals at the Castellan Family Fencing Center.

The No. 1 Irish women and No. 2 men enjoyed another sweep Sunday after going undefeated against varsity competition on Saturday. With one late-afternoon bye, the Irish fenced eight total rounds and recorded wins over McKendree (men 20-7, women 26-1), Oakland (men 25-2, women 26-1), Navy (men 26-1, women 22-5), Clemson (men 24-3, women 24-3), Indiana (men 24-3, women 27-0), Michigan State (men 27-0, women 24-3) and Michigan (men 20-7, women 26-1).

The day of club competition allowed Notre Dame to rest the majority of their normal starters, and afforded non-starters and underclassmen an opportunity to compete.

The Irish will return to action next weekend when they face NYU and St. John’s (men No. 6, women No. 7) on Saturday and Sunday, respectively at St. John’s Arena in Queens, New York.
