Irish Finish 14th At The Central District Invitational

PARRISH, Fla. – The Fighting Irish women’s golf team finished 14th at the 2010 Central District Invitational after shooting a final round 303 on Tuesday morning at the River Wilderness Country Club. Sophomore Becca Huffer (Denver, Colo./Littleton) led the Irish with a one-over par 73 in the final round, placing her in a tie for 14th at the tournament.

Huffer finished with six-over par 222 total for the tournament and she closed with back-to-back 73’s to record her sixth consecutive top-15 finish out of six events of the 2009-10 campaign. Huffer’s consistent final round included a birdie on the eighth, 15 pars and two bogeys. Currently ranked 65th by Golfstat, Huffer finished ahead of six players ranked ahead of her.

Junior Katie Conway (Wading River, N.Y./Shoreham-Wading River) turned in her third consecutive four-over par 76 to finish at 12-over par for the tournament, good for a 35th-place tie. All three of her rounds at the Central District Invitational counted towards Notre Dame’s team score.

Senior co-captain Annie Brophy Spokane (Wash./Gonzaga Prep) shot a two-over par 74 to record Notre Dame’s second lowest final round score. The 74 marked her lowest round of the tournament and she finished at 13-over par and tied for 39th. Her final round included four birdies but she was hurt by six bogeys.

Junior So-Hyun Park (Seoul, South Korea/Bradenton (Fla.)/Preparatory Academy) rounded out the final round scoring for the Irish. She shot a final round 80 to finish at 35-over par.

Senior co-captain Kristin Wetzel (Middletown, NY/Hilton Head (S.C.) Prep School) carded a final round 83 to move to 29-over par, finishing in 72nd place.

Florida outperformed a strong field that included seven top-25 ranked teams to capture the 2010 Central District Invitational title with a seven-under par effort. TCU finished second at 22-over par. The Gator duo of Isabelle and Marika Lendlis finished tied for medalist honors at 4-under par.
