Irish Find Success At USATF U20 Championships

MIRAMAR, Fla. — Two members of the men’s track and field team competed at the USATF Outdoor  U20 Championships over the weekend in Florida with a chance to represent Team USA on the line.

Freshman Danny Kilrea led things off on Friday night as he posted the fastest time in the 10K, crossing the finish in 31:38.85 for an automatic spot in Costa Rica next month. Matthew Carmody came just shy of his own spot at the future international competition as he took bronze in the 3K steeplechase with a time of 9:16.20.

The meet follows a string of successes for the Irish at the USATF U20 level. Last year, Yared Nuguse won the men’s 1,500m race to earn a spot at the 2018 IAAF World U20 Championships held in Finland.
