NOTRE DAME, Ind. – The University of Notre Dame fencing team returns to the strip Saturday and Sunday when it plays host to the Notre Dame Duals. The Duals, which takes place in the Joyce Center Fieldhouse, gets underway with women’s action Saturday beginning at 8:00 a.m. (ET) before the men compete Sunday beginning at 8:00 a.m.

Both the Irish women’s team, ranked third nationally according to the CollegeFencing360.com Coaches Poll, and the men’s team, ranked fourth, enter the weekend on the heels of identical 6-5 trips to the St. John’s Duals and NYU Duals. The men, however, sport a 12-5 overall record after going 6-0 at the Air Force Duals earlier in the month.

This year’s Notre Dame Duals field features 16 teams including: Case Western Reserve, Chicago, Cleveland State, Detroit, Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Lawrence, Michigan, Michigan State, Northwestern, Purdue, Wayne State and Wisconsin in addition to the host Irish.

The Notre Dame women’s squad is set to take part in a total of 12 bouts on the day, concluding with a showdown with fifth-ranked Northwestern, tentatively scheduled for 4:30 p.m. The men also will face a 12-bout docket, bookended by double bouts against Purdue and Illinois to begin the day and Cleveland State and Michigan State to end competition.

With the weekends matchups taking place on campus, the Irish expect to give a majority of the members on the roster a chance to compete in at least one bout over the course of the two days.
