NORMAL, Ill. — The Notre Dame women’s volleyball team fell to 5-6 overall this season after losing 9-15, 15-10, 10-15, 9-15 to Illinois State in Normal, Ill. on Tuesday night. This was the first time in seven tries that the two teams did not play five games.

The Irish were led offensively by sophomore Christi Girton (Munice, Ind.) and senior Lindsay Treadwell (Austin, Texas) who both had 13 kills. Treadwell also recorded 11 digs to give her 20 career double-double (kills/digs) and led the team in blocks with seven total.

Both teams were plagued by poor hitting. The Irish only hit .167 for the four-game match, while the Redbirds hit only .195 in the win. Illinois State’s Marisa Brickley contributed 59 assists for her team, to break the Missouri Valley Conference career assist record with 4,964.

Notre Dame travels to Connecticut this weekend for matches with Connecticut and Fairfield and then will play St. John’s Sunday afternoon.
