Notre Dame, Ind. – Freshman right wing Mike Curry scored two goals and sophomore goaltender Josh Johnson stopped 27 of 28 shots to lead the fourth-ranked Minnesota-Duluth Bulldogs to a 4-1 win over Notre Dame Friday night at the Joyce Center.

The loss snapped Notre Dame’s 15-game regular-season home-unbeaten streak (12-0-3) that began on October 17, 2003 after the Irish dropped their home opener to Bowling Green.

Tim Stapleton and Brett Hammond scored the Bulldogs other goals while Matt Amado had the lone goal for the Irish. The win improved Minnesota-Duluth to 1-0-1 on the season while Notre Dame falls to 0-1-1 on the year.

The two teams combined for 20 power-play chances in the game with Notre Dame going one-for-12 in the game while Minnesota-Duluth was one-for-eight on the night.

Curry tied the game at 17:39 with his first-period power play goal. Defenseman Neil Petruic took a shot from the slot that Irish goaltender David Brown made the save, but Curry was there to fire the rebound home.

UMD snapped the 1-1 tie at 12:20 of the second period on Tim Stapleton’s second goal of the season. Justin Williams set up the Bulldog freshmen with a pass inside the Irish zone.

The Bulldogs put the game away at 5:37 of the final period when Brett Hammond redirected a Luke Stauffacher centering pass behind Brown for his first lamplighter of the season.

Curry then closed out the scoring as he took a pass in the neutral zone from Marco Peluso, made a nice move at the blue line to get past the Irish defense and swooped in to beat Brown from the slot with a well-placed wrist shot.
