Irish Fall to Florida State in ACC Tournament

ROME, Ga. –  The University of Notre Dame women’s tennis team saw its Atlantic Coast Conference Tournament appearance end Thursday afternoon in Georgia. The Fighting Irish fell to the 38th-ranked Florida State Seminoles 4-0 in the first round of the conference tournament. Notre Dame concludes the regular season ranked 42nd nationally with a 13-12 overall record.

The Irish will wait to see where the season will go after the NCAA Selection Show at 6:30 p.m. Women’s tennis individual who could participate in the NCAA tournament will be released via a press release on May 3rd.

Florida State opened the scoring Thursday afternoon by taking two of the three doubles matches. The Irish took the third flight quickly, but couldn’t find the result it needed for the point at the first and second flights.

In singles play, Florida State got straight-set wins at flights 1, 3 and 4 to earn the victory. The Irish were leading in each of the three unfinished flights, but the Seminoles had already clinched the point.
